CONCLUSION
In closing, it is noteworthy that Theodore Wirtz, the lone
survivor of his branch of the Wirtz family in Germany, came
to this country, survived both the perils of pioneer life
and the Civil War, raised a family of four boys and five
girls who produced forty-two grandchildren, and lived on to
91 years of age. Of the 42 grandchildren only nine were
males endowed with the name of Worts. Of his
great-grandchildren with the Worts name, very few have male
offspring.
Among Theodore's descendants the family name of Wirtz has
already disappeared; is this happening to the uniquely
spelled family name of Worts also?
